Exploring Bangkok: First Three Days in Thailand
My journey began with an epic 18-hour trip from Glasgow to Bangkok, connecting through Amsterdam. Ofe and I arrived in Bangkok feeling both exhausted and excited, and were greeted by our driver, who whisked us through the city’s vibrant streets to our hotel. There we met Emma and Ming, our cheerful tour guides who welcomed us to Bangkok and gave us a quick rundown of what to expect in the days ahead.
After settling in, we decided to kick off our Thai adventure with some retail therapy at the Siam Shopping Centre. Known for its endless array of shops, Siam had everything from luxury brands to quirky local stores. We spent hours browsing, completely lost in the sheer variety, before heading back to meet the rest of our tour group over a delicious dinner. Everyone was excited to share their travel stories, and it was the perfect way to bond with our fellow adventurers.

The next morning, we set off for a day packed with cultural experiences. Our first stop was a temple, where we received a blessing from monks, an unexpectedly serene and humbling moment. We then took a scenic river cruise along the Chao Phraya River, floating past ornate temples and bustling riverside communities. Afterward, we visited Wat Pho, home to the impressive Reclining Buddha, and marveled at its intricate golden details. We wrapped up the day with a lively evening on Khao San Road, the heart of Bangkok’s backpacking scene, where the streets were alive with music, food, and travelers from all over the world.
Day three brought us an authentic taste of Thai cuisine through a cooking class. We learned to make classic dishes like Pad Thai, Tom Yum soup, and Panang curry, all under the guidance of a local chef. In the afternoon, we had free time to explore on our own, so we wandered through local markets, tried our hand at haggling, and sampled various street foods. The day ended with an overnight train journey, setting off toward our next destination and looking forward to the adventures ahead.

Reading through your blog was so exciting! I'm so glad you and Ofe get to experience the world like this 🫶 I hope you both had so much fun and continue to have so many wonderful experiences that broaden your horizons and open more viewpoints for you both!
